With the missed quorum at the September meeting, we postponed the final
tickets for the MPI 3.1 standard to the December meeting this means,
unless we change our mind at the San Jose meeting, the last errata and
second votes to be included into MPI 3.1 will held at the December meeting
and we¹ll vote on the whole standard in March.
We will have a discussion on the final document preparation on Thursday of
the December meeting after the voting block. One thing is for sure, though:
we need to reactivate the chapter committees and some of them are sparsely
populated at the moment. Please take look at the list on the MPI 3.1 webpage
and see if you are on the right spot and whether you would like to volunteer
for chapter and then please send me email. Also, if you don¹t want to
participate any longer, please let me know as well, since we need the
committees to be active and heavily involved in the final steps for MPI 3.1.
The role of the chapter committee is to oversee the editing process for that
chapter, to make sure that all changes are included properly, that ticket 0
changes are handled correctly and that the chapter is consistent with the
overall standard. The chapter committee lead then has the responsibility to
commit changes approved by the chapter committee into the main copy of the
standard.

Hi all,
The MPI Forum in September 2015 will be held with EuroMPI in Bordeaux
(thanks to Guillaume and his team!). The conference will be in the week of
9/21 to 9/25 and based on that we have two options for the forum meeting:
The traditional option that we have been using also this year:
Conference 9/22-9/25 (Tue-Fri)
MPI Forum 9/28-9/30 (Mon-Wed, following week)
A more condensed option:
Conference 9/21-9/24 (Mon-Thu noon)
MPI Forum 9/24 -9/26 (Thu noon Sat)
We had quite some discussion on this at the Forum meeting (heavy load due to
an intense 6 day meeting vs. an extra weekend on the road) in Kobe and a
split opinion with a very slight majority for the condensed version in a
straw poll. However, we felt that this should not be decided by the few who
traveled to Kobe and so I wanted to through this out as a general
discussion. We have to (and we will) fix this decision during the December
meeting in San Jose if necessary, I.e., if we don¹t have clear consensus,
with an official vote based on organizations.

Hi all,
I put up an initial roster for the December meeting in San Jose. As usual, I
am planning to arrange WG meeting in the beginning of the meeting (until
Tuesday noon or evening depending on the requests that I get), followed by
the plenaries. Votes will be Thursday morning.
For the plenaries, I would like to try something different, based on the
experience at the forum in Japan: instead of having a fixed schedule, I¹ll
put up a list of topics that we need to cover and we¹ll go through them in
order, but not necessarily with a fixed schedule. We basically followed this
scheme in Japan (out of necessity since we had to redo the agenda on the fly
due to the missed quorum) and this worked fairly well and allowed for enough
discussions for the topics that needed them. I¹ll still try to keep track of
overall time to make sure we get through with the agenda, in particular with
the items to be voted on, but I would like to avoid that this dictates the
schedule.
For the WG leads: please send me any requests for WG time or plenary items
as soon as you can (even if you need to revise that later), so we can start
building a more concrete agenda. Also, please let me know of any tickets
that you want read or voted on as part of errata. I have pre-populated the
agenda with the second and first votes, since those are fixed but please
also double check those. The deadline for announcing tickets for readings or
votes is as usual 2 weeks before the forum, which is the Monday 11/24, I.e.,
the Monday of Thanksgiving week.
