As Dave said, we have tried this in the past, and given the costs associated with using the new ANL facility, it was cheaper to hold the meeting at a local hotel close to Argonne, rather than at ANL. We have identified a site close to the hotel in down town Chicago, and will most likely go ahead with this. Review/Reading versions of #204 and #266

Hi all, I uploaded new versions of the proposals #204: MPI_Get_library_version (also contains two suggested ticket 0 changes for the MPI Environmental Management chapter) #266: The MPI tool information interface for comments and as the versions intended for the formal readings in Greece. Dear all, there was a question, which file should be reviewed. Here my answer: It is a really huge ticket that needs the review-support of all chapter responsibles. I try to sort it out: A) Normal chapter-reviewers: Officially, reviewers have to review always the reviewdoc, i.e., mpi-report-F2008-2011-09-08-reviewdoc.pdf This means, one must mainly review the diff, i.e., the red portions marked with ticket. This is recommended for the normal chapter reviewers. B) Fortran-Chapter-Reviewers: For Section 16.2 "Fortran Support", it is strongly recommended to review mpi-report-F2008-2011-09-08-changeonlyplustickets.pdf because this is the only readable form of this section. This means one must read the total Section 16.2 as a whole (black and red). C) For owners of MPI-3 tickets: Please take mpi-report-F2008-2011-09-08-changeonlyplustickets.pdf and check for Annex B.4. The interfaces are always two: - the new mpif_f08 - and the old mpi. The old one (i.e., the second form) must be checked whether it is identical to your latest version of your ticket. The new one (i.e., the first form) must be checked whether it is correctly mapped to mpi_f08. D) All: If one wants to make handwritten marks, for example on travel, then I recommend to print mpi-report-F2008-2011-09-08-changeonlyplustickets_majorpages.pdf and in mpi-report-F2008-2011-09-08-changeonlyplustickets.pdf the Annexes A.3 (p.553-695) and B.4 (p.753-770). As already said, it is huge. It touches 140 pages (...majorpages.pdf) and contains 43 pages of new interfaces for MPI-2.2 (Annex A.3) and additionally 18 pages for MPI-3.0 tickets (Annex B.4) E) Compilation-Check: If you want compile the module interface, then you must download mpi-3.0-all-interfaces-08-f2003.f90 F) If you want to see, how it looks like in the future if you have a F2008+TR29113 compiler, then you must look at mpi-3.0-all-interfaces-12-f2008TR29113.f90 G) and finally, the file mpi-3.0-all-interfaces-07-f2008.f90 contains exactly what is part of the pdf files Annex A.3. To be more exact, this is the starting point of all the interfaces in the pdf files and of the other two .f90 files. All is done by a set of macros, translating this only one basis into Latex and real Fortran F2003 and F2008+TR29113. (the .2 version is a double uploading, it should be removed but I have no rights to remove such duplicated files Jeff may help?) I am the chair of SAAHPC next year so I am aware of the logistical issues of hosting an event. The administrative cost in FTE hours is likely less than what you, Darius and I will lose from the commute that day. There is sufficient lead time in this case to process all of the foreign nationals who are not already in our system. For example, anyone from the Forum who has visited Argonne recently and/or has a BGP account (e.g. Torsten) would already have a 593 on file and thus be equivalent to a US citizen in terms of administrative overhead. Remember, most people flying into ORD (or coming by train) can rely on public transportation - most of us won't have a way to get to ANL (other than an expensive taxi/limo). Jeff, we've tried multiple times to arrange the Forum here at Argonne, but it's much more complicated than you might think. A combination of DOE meeting policies, ANL "public meeting in TCS" policies, and other cost issues actually makes it very difficult to hold the meeting at Argonne without supplying a significant amount of work on the ANL side to handle badging foreign nationals. Add to this the apparent preference of most non-Chicagoland attendees for a downtown meeting (see Bronis' email) and it becomes even more difficult to schedule a meeting here. Very true. I was working under the assumption that people would check out in the morning, go to Argonne (reverse commute is fast) and leave directly from Argonne to the hotel. The total distance is greater but it is logistically simpler than walking, taxiing, etc. to some new location, is it not? The Argonne is zero cost for the space, which may be an advantage relative to other sites, such as at one of the hotels. I agree that my idea is far-fetched, but I live 3 miles from Argonne. I am pretty sure Dave and Darius will be much happier as well.
