Hi Jimmy, You could try starting the AGTk from the command-line to see if there might be any useful error messages, unfortunately I don't have a Mac handy to be able to tell you the steps. A common reason for the RAT GUI not to come up is due to a firewall blocking mbus communication between rat's processes. If there is a 3rd party firewall installed, try temporarily turning it off. MacOS 10.4.11 PPC AG install.

I just installed AGTK 3.2 beta1 (PPC, python 23) on a Mac G5 PPC with MacOS 10.4.11 and Python 2.3.5. It installed fine. When I run the application, it just fails immediately without even showing up in the process list. I deleted my .AccessGrid folder and a new one is never created. On a second system, configured as above, AGtk 3.2 beta1 runs except for the rat user interface. In the process monitor I see rat and rat-4.4.00-ui but I never see the interface. Any ideas would be most helpful. Please make it go. Eric, I have video up in the Louisiana lobby: venues.lbrn.lsu.edu if you are just checking to see anyone else¹s video. So, everyone used to hang out in Argonne¹s or NCSA¹s venue lobby but lately I know that now that many organizations such as ours in Louisiana have their own venue server such that it means we don¹t hang out in the Argonne lobby (or NCSA¹s) anymore. If you¹re looking to do some testing, you might ask for volunteers to help meet/test and then schedule a time to do so. We used to do this all the time, but since we¹re almost entirely in production mode (I figured it out, we average almost 2.5 meetings a day in our state on the Access Grid) we don¹t do much hanging out¹ anymore. :-/ So, the lack of sites hanging out in the lobby doesn¹t necessarily mean AG stuff isn¹t going on... because in Louisiana, it is going on! -John P.s. Empty Venues?

All: West Virginia University recently bought new, up-to-date machines to operate our AG setup on. I've downloaded and installed all of the software, but I can VERY rarely see anyone in any of the venues, included Argonne Lobby. I didn't set up the software on our previous AG setup. Is there some sort of configuration necessary in the Venue Client? Thanks, Eric

G'day Richard and All With the increase in computer capacity, I generally find there are 2 practical limitations these days to "how many streams can you view, etc". The first one is obviously "Network", the more streams the more bandwidth required. Obviously there are High Def streams and all that as well, but if you have access to fast, high capacity networks, this isn't as big of an issue. The other limitation is what I like to call "desktop real-estate". How many streams can you actually fit up on the screen... If you are using a single monitor, then I would say you would be limited when compared to using multiple (3 or more) display screens. I have been fortunate enough to have participated in a SC Global session where at one stage I counted 72 different AG nodes (given some were transmitting multiple streams, I would say the number was over 100 different video streams) coming from 17 different countries. It should also be noted that this was back at least 3 or more years ago... So hopefully, this gives you an idea of the AG's capability. Also, I think a scalability test would also be good to "stress test" sites and connections. Cheers, Jason. I¹ve quite a few streams with the past virtual genomics conferences numbering past 50 video streams or so when LSU participated with a speaker. Louisiana sites would probably be happy to throw in quite a bit of video into a venue for a scalability test at a predetermined time. We¹ve the bandwidth here in Louisiana, and I¹ve recently moved some of my local sites to a high priority vlan established by our local networking group. AG participated in the bandwidth challenge one year at Supercomputing, perhaps SC2000? It was quite an amusing choice actually....one really shouldn't try to break bandwidth records using multicast. Nonetheless, there was a huge number of streams, definitely over 50 and perhaps in the neighborhood of 100. The total number of streams varied a bit from site to site, depending mostly on multicast issues. It was absolutely not interactive, but most video streams had some sort of movement.
