Greetings, Internet2 Commons is providing streaming media broadcasts of the Access Grid events this week at SIGGRAPH, including two sessions not available to any remote Access Grid audiences: * "In Common: TIME" by Digital Worlds Institute, featuring performers from Doncaster College (UK), Queensland University of Technology (Australia), Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (Korea), University of Florida (USA), New World School of the Arts (USA), and Red Universitaria Nacional (Chile). * "Interplay: Loose Minds in a Box," by Another Language, featuring performers from University of Utah, Arctic Regional Supercomputer Center, Purdue University, University of Alaska Fairbanks, University of Illinois, University of Maryland, and University of Montana. In addition to a unicast Windows Media Player stream, there will also be a multicast MPEG-2 stream, driven by new Internet2 corporate member HaiVision Systems, using recently released hai210 encoders and decoders. AccessGrid For NetBSD

hi all, Let me introduce myself to you all. My name is Pritesh Shah and I'm currently working for New Mexico IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (NM-INBRE), located at New Mexico State University, USA. Perhaps for more than three to four months i've been trying to build an AccessGrid Package for NetBSD OS. I've been in constant touch with Christoph Willing and he's been a source of great help and inspiration to me. ( www.ap-accessgrid.org/AG2/freebsd5.html ). With Christoph's help i was able to make considerable progress, and i think from no-where i reached a stage where i can say "i'm not far away". I have the gpt package, the globus-data-management-client package, and the accessgrid package ready. I'm used to using the term package since NetBSD OS uses the packaging system (like freebsd's ports, or linux's rpms). All the necessary changes needed to make it work for NetBSD were made ( believe me guys it was not easy, woofffff !!). These packages are made such that if you want to install the accessgrid package, it pulls all the required dependencies and installs properly to the respective locations. After all the packages were ready i tested them by entering the default lobby. I had some problems to get the rat and vic that came with accessgrid to work properly. This was expected as it looked like these rat and vic executables are for linux or some other os. But these were replaced by some updated native rat and vic executables. And now when i enter a lobby both rat and vic windows show up. i tested rat and it is able to both transfer and recieve audio feeds, This is where i need your help guys, vic recieves the video fine. But the real problem is, when i want to transmit video through vic I have four capture cards (bt878) recognized as follows: .... .... bktr0 at pci0 dev 8 function 0 bktr0: interrupting at irq 11 bktr0: Hauppauge WinCast/TV, <no> tuner. Brooktree Bt878 Video Capture (Audio Section) (miscellaneous multimedia, revision 0x11) at pci0 dev 8 function 1 not configured bktr1 at pci0 dev 9 function 0 bktr1: interrupting at irq 11 bktr1: Hauppauge WinCast/TV, <no> tuner. (vic > menu > device). And when i select the correct card from which to transmit, it shows up an image with lot of interlaced lines, and nothing except these lines. i have a Sony DSP Color CCTV Camera ( Hi-Res, Ex-View) (PC165C) attached to one of the RCA ports. the pixel specs for the camera are: Effective Pixels NTSC 811(H) x 508(V) Pal 795(H) x 596(V) I was wondering whether i need to get a new camera, with any particulars which have been tested to work with linux or freebsd systems ?? i'm also trying to dig into the code for the vic's bktr grabber (grabber-meteor.cc). I was also wondering if any of you had vic woking with any of the BrookTree Video Capture Cards and if so what camera were you using, and if there were any special changes that were made to the code for getting it up and working. i hope you all will help me out. Distributed workshop on cyberinfrastructure collaboration

Greetings, Stephenie McLean (of Texas Advanced Computing Center) and I are co-leading a workshop on Cyberinfrastructure collaboration, at University of Hawaii at Manoa and Clark Atlanta University. We will use the Access Grid as infrastructure for the event, leading it collaboratively from both locations. We will also use the Access Grid for guest speakers (including Deb Agarwal of LBNL), but will not include remote audiences at sites other than U/Hawaii and Clark Atlanta. 'all you Osprey100 and 210 users out there. do the current Ospreys come with decent proprietary viewing, capturing, etc. software? if so, has anyone experimented with whether this software still runs with VFW drivers swapped inplace of the currently shipped WDM drivers? Hi Allan, Yep, Osprey 100 works like a charm. I just (yesterday) delivered a 3- in/4-out single machine node with a matrox QID pci-express card and 3 Osprey 100's plus a M-Audio 4x6 Audiophile Firewire external soundcard (since the built-in Intel ultra high fidelity sound chip does not seem to work with RAT). In short yes :-) About firewire video you have to be careful. Firewire DV camera's (mini-DV Cams, isight) transmit raw DV over firewire. This works perfectly on the MAC, since Quicktime does it's magic and VIC only "sees" videoframes for it to transmit. It doesn't work on PC's (unless you have this older piece of software from OrangeMicro that sorta does what quicktime is doing in mac-land in winxp....used to cost 30 bucks). There are also a whole other class of Firewire Webcams out there (OrangeMicro used to make one and also UniBrain makes one). They produce pixel data (ie: in winxp they show up as a capture device) so they can be used with VIC (again OSX also works, since quicktime is taking care of all this for you). Now you can use multiple firewire web-cam's in XP (haven't tried it with OSX) the only trouble is that the first VIC client will tie up the default driver which will force the subsequent VIC clients to present you with the dreaded "tell me which driver you like me to use" pull down window. This would have been fine if the driver guys (for FW webcams) were as "smart" as the guys at viewcast - they number their driver entries in XP so you can tell which driver goes with which card - but they aren't (atleast not yet). Have you checked the source in your RAT for the audio. On Video - have you tested with someone or gone to a venue with video. Have you checked that you have multicast or gone to a venue where you can use a unicast bridge, etc.(i.e. network connectivity issues) ...have you read any of the online documentation and tutorials. They are actually useful for setups. I require the reading for all my new operators I train.. and then i train them (hopefully shortening the training process). No problems with Osprey's 100/210/230's for me on XP Sp2. I'll be trying firewire camera next week. Of course, I've already tried it on OS X, iSight *is* a firewire camera.
