Unicast issues with vic/rat

Howdy folks, In the past couple of weeks, working with two different groups, I've run into a common problem and am wondering if anybody has faced this sort of thing and can point to potential solutions. The basic problem in both cases is that folks are having problems connecting vic/rat successfully VIA UNICAST to a unicast/multicast bridge. Quick example: If you use my QuickBridge at U Montana, you should be able to jump into the UM Institutional Venue and see a couple of my cameras and hear some pleasant country music playing :) vic mroccs.cs.umt.edu/50186 rat mroccs.cs.umt.edu/50184 (If you do try this, please don't linger, as there are "official" uses for this venue :)) Or, you should be able to access the AG Lobby via my QuickBridge vic mroccs.cs.umt.edu/50006 rat mroccs.cs.umt.edu/50004 For some reason, there are folks who are trying to unicast in, and the end result seems to be that "we" can see them, but they can't see us. Note that there's no multicast involved here - in one case, the bridge is simply being used as a "rendezvous point" for two unicast streams, but the same problems occur - I seem to be able to see/hear the remote site, but they can't see/hear me. Note that this only happens in very specific networks. If these folks go outside their network (e.g. through an ISP), it seems to work fine, so it's unique to specific networks. My vague understanding of vic/rat, used with the QuickBridge, is that the clients send UDP datagrams out to the bridge on ports in the 50000 range, and they seem to receive UDP datagrams on ports in the 32000 range, and it "should" be that simple. One of these sites swears up and down that their filters will allow these UDP datagrams, and they've even tested it by trying to push datagrams from the outside in, which seemed to work. Is there something "additional" going on that might prevent these unicast audio/video streams from getting into certain networks? You can coordinate with a site that does have multicast connectivity, and ask them to run a unicast bridge. Unicast connectivity

I have run into several problems, it seems, in setting up an AccessGrid node. Let me explain the whole situation to you and see if you can help then. I am currently working on a project to set up an AccessGrid node on a PC for the University of Idaho Aquacultural center in Hagerman, Idaho, about 1.5 hours southeast of Boise, where I am currently residing. The center in Hagerman is currently under construction but will have the multicast Internet2 connections. The distance between the Hagerman center and myself, in addition to the lack of IT professionals at the center, has led me to pursue a course of installing, configuring, and testing an AccessGrid node here in Boise, and then taking it to Hagerman for permanent use and minimal IT management. Right now, I am trying to become familiar with setting up and configuring an AccessGrid node by installing the software on my laptop. I have installed the necessary software and would like to test my node, but when I try to connect I only see myself because I am not on a multicast connection. I do most of my Internet-related work on the network at Boise State University and the school does not have multicast-enabled connections. I am looking for a possible workaround so that I can connect to AccessGrid using the unicast connections available at Boise State. Many of you have suggested using VRVS and while this does appear to be a viable alternative, it does not present me with the option to do what I need to do; that is, test and configure an actual AccessGrid node. Is there a way to connect to AccessGrid using my unicast connection, a way which will enable me to test and configure my own AccessGrid node? I have seen something about a utility called VTC but I do not know what I need to do with it in order for it to help me. Again, I do this not for myself, but rather to become familiar with the operation of an AccessGrid node. Thanks for the assistance. Hello Vu Quang: The steps you are following look like they should work. You say you are running version 2.1.1 of the AG software. The latest version, 2.1.2, contains significant bug fixes; I recommend you update to 2.1.2 and try the procedure again. If you continue to have problems, you can look at the logfiles written by the software to try to determine the problem. The files you'll want to look at are AGService.log on Linux (in ~/.AccessGrid); and agns.log and VenueClient.log on Windows (in C:\Documents and Settings\<you>\Application Data\AccessGrid). If the problem isn't evident in the logs, you can send them to me, and I will try to understand the problem. Sorry you ran into problems with the software. Let me know how things go. That's fine on the AGDP (I'll bet it's fine on the rest of the site too, but I won't speak for the ANL folks). When linking to AGDP docs I'd strongly suggest linking to the title page for the doc, rather than the doc itself, as the index doc will always be linked to the most current version of the doc. Linux supported 64 bit/100 MHz PCI-X compatible video capture card

Hello all. I am looking 64 bit/100 MHz PCI-X compatible video capture cards with linux support and work well with VIC. It would be great to find a card that supported simultaneous capturing of multiple video streams (such as the iTuner Spectra8 - which as far as I can determine is not compatible with a 64bit PCI-X slot). The plan is to put such a card in a Dell Precision Workstation 650n with Redhat 9 linux. 64 bit PCI-X compatible video capture cards I am aware of include: --- Winnov Videum 1000 VO --- (There does not appear to be strong linux support for this manufacturer) --- ViewCast Osprey-230 --- (Does not support simultaneous capturing of multiple video streams) Any advice, recommendations, or comments about cards that supported simultaneous capturing of multiple video streams under linux would also be appreciated. I appreciate the replies I've received. Unfortunately, my problem had nothing to do with networks (it was just a vague hunch) and everything to do with not having drivers working correctly with my sound card. I downloaded the OSS drivers, turned off my KDE audio server (that seems to REALLY get in the way), and I was off and running.
