display manager not receiving correct display

Hi all, I was recently put in charge of an access grid node and am having problems seeing the camera views on the display manager. Our setup is much like the one in the 'Building an Acess Grid Node' document. Went in yesterday and brought everything up. The only problem is that instead of seeing what the camera is seeing, the video server (agvideo) seems to be transmitting its own screen, showing the Video Resource Manager on the linux desktop in the thumbnail windows on the Win2K display PC. I've double-checked cable connections and settings and everything appears to be in place. Also, no network problems have been discovered. I know the cameras are on and broadcasting because they are also hooked to a small monitor and show the correct conference room views. Anyone have an idea why I'm getting my video server screen instead of a camera view in my venues display? All other nodes from other sites come in fine. I've been running the Fedora's yum updates to my Red Hat 9 box and AG, and I've been pretty happy with it. The NPACI ROCKS project (http://www.rocksclusters.org) uses Red Hat Enterprise 2.1 AW for their distribution, so I don't for see any problems if people use it with out buying it from Red Hat. There aren't ISO images, and the fee they charge is mainly for up2date, unless you pay more for support. The bits are free. The support isn't. -- Mark C. Jon: It appears that ag-display.ucs.ualberta.ca is not a valid name for the machine you're using. 08/28/03 10:51:42 4044 AG.VenueClientUIClasses venueclientuiclasses.py:3166 CRITICAL VerifyExecutionEnvironment: This may be due to the hostname being set to something different than the name to which the IP address of this computer maps, or to the the hostname not being fully qualified with the full domain. From the log, wks9280.ucs.ualberta.ca is a valid name for the machine. Try using that instead. Let me know if there are more problems. installation problems for ag2.1.2

I was running ag2.1.1 and needed to upgrade to 2.1.2 for a demo today but things appear to have gone wrong somewhere. This is on my node with one winXP box and two linux boxes. On the linux boxes I did not uninstall anything and just ran the 2.1.2 install.sh. Everything seemed to work fine there and the service managers run on those machines. On the winxp box I uninstalled the AG2.1.1 ( but left wxpython or Activepython). Then I installed AG2.1.2 and everything seemed to go fine. I then imported my certificate and proceeded to run the venue client. The venue client ran fine and connected to the venue server but it did not run vic. So, then I tried the manage node option on the menus but it said that the service manager was not running. So, I tried running a service manager in its own window. I still can't get the venue client to connect to the service manager. Then I tried running the configure node python script in the Access Grid Toolkit and configuring things that way. I answer the questions, and printouts start appearing in the service manager window and the vid and aud machine service managers show various text printouts but the display machine service manager eventually gets an exception trying to start something on the display machine and gives up. Any idea what I did wrong? I will not be near the machine today but I need to generate a set of instructions for one of my colleagues to follow and get the display machine running properly. Any suggestions on how I can get things running with the simplest set of instructions (I realize this may be uninstall everything)? Thanks for any help. Deb Agarwal

Our AG nodes reside on Dell 530 workstations - dual P4 processors - I'm using a Spectra8 video capture card in one of them. The SPectra card works fine, but if uses the WDM interface so whenever I switch to a "room" I get the WDM "choose a camera port" window. It's a little annoying but since I only had 3 PCI slots to work with, the Spectra8 card was acceptable.
