I'm trying to get the AG2 code to run on FreeBSD 4.9 using the code version from the CVS repository. I modified Platform.py to add a platform check for freebsd4 and added FreeBSD to the valid OS types in the GetXXXConfigXXX routines. ProcessManager.py was modified to include FreeBSD importing ProcessManagerUnix. When I start VenueClient.py with --personalNode it displays a dialog box to enter the passphrase and then displays a progress bar but seems to fail when starting AGNodeService and AGServiceManager from PersonalNodePipes.py I noticed that if I move the existing certRepo directory out of the way I can get the VenueClient window to display by Canceling the Certificate dialog boxes. I used this method to import the Globus certificates initially. I'm not sure if the problem is the underlying Globus port or something in one of the higher level toolkits. I suspect that this may be related to a difference in pipe handling between Linux and FreeBSD. Anyone got any ideas ? dear AG been working through AG2.1.2 again, and have some more notes and comments for you: (Bugzilla Bug 742 i guess): defaultWindows configurations for AGServiceManager only loaded when using VenueClient --personalNode. (and an ANL/AG issued cert.. others proxy ok, but you cant manage node) Starting AGServiceManager and AGNodeService manually wont load any config, or add any services at all. Yes, the menu shortcut on windows includes the --personalNode argument, and self starts AGServiceMAnager and AGNodeservice on a single machine I presume. But what of trying (mistakenly it seems) to test rigs for multimachine set ups (i.e. the majority of GRID nodes built to recommended AG specs)? how do we fully test a multimachine config and successful (default) service loading? it is possible to start things manually, add services from the venue client and correctly connect to at least the ag2 server it seems, but not something I can see catching on for ease of use. But a personal node would look wrong too, how to link the producer and consumer for example? Users will only truly navigate with the one display machine, so am stuck with no synchronisation with other servers (our encoder for example). and thats my main concern here. how do I establish reliable service placements across a multimachine node? Seems I cannot autorun services at boot time - they will all eventually fail if a short proxy is in use, and with many aspects of node management now in the venueclient, these are easily changed by individuals. with no grid proxy init, PASSPHRASE and proxy creation is commandline based on a variable user ID.. ok - now whos going to bother fixing up the other machines no one ever runs the venue client on.. each facility user must by necessity start and configure all services themselves to make sure a valid and consistent proxy is about? these points are starting to place VERY high training and staffing requirements on any planned (multi machine) node use, and would seem more suited to self customisable PIGs and single machine nodes only (say floating, departmental laptops or similar). I cant visualise this on a multimachine set up at the moment without a lot of manual intervention - have I missed a big part or hint here? many thanks for your time amnd trouble in this lewis -- ...................................................... Hello, I have not used the Duo or Quattro cards from Videum. But, I have used 3 of the 1000 VO plus cards in a Dual Xeon system. These cards work great. Best of all, they're 3.3 volt compatable. With all three cards running full tilt, the display service, and the rat running audio I'm still only using about 55% of the 4 cpu threads available. (With the hyperthreading and 2 CPUs you get 4 execution threads). This system is running both the 2.2 and 1.2 AG software on Windows XP. I'm running a two projector and one console display subsystem. The console is run using the motherboard video subsytem and the two projectors are driven (using DVI video cables) by a PNY NVS 400. The only gotcha is that I don't know how to set the video resolution default to CIF. The vic encoders insist on starting up in 320x240 mode. So, at the start of a session, I have to manually change the resolution of the capture driver in vic. Tom, Thanks, you were right on the money. I had created an account on the linux boxes for myself as the new AG operator but forgot to give permissions to both the audio and video devices. The problem is probably that the video devices on your linux box are either in use, or you don't have permissions to access them. If either of those is true, vic will default to transmitting X11 screen captures. This is a common problem when one person logs in to the console, and another person tries to run the AG software, because the devices will be owned by the first person and closed to everyone else.
