Hi Andrew, I asked the same question a few months ago, looked up into VP code, and eventually decided to develop an OpenGL interface to deal with the videos in a 3d space, with different modes with various views, automatic layout algorithms, manual managing of the videos, and various filtering options on the videos up to some visual perceptual features. The new architecture developed should allow easily to add new layout algorithms, new interaction devices, and implement new filters to add to the current filter pipeline I have also been working on. My work on this is now over, since it is the end of my internship now here at the HIT Lab NZ, but this OpenGL version for VIC should be available soon, and I would be pleased to answer any question with this regards, and show you screenshots of this work. I would look into the Datapath line of RGB capture cards http://www.datapath.co.uk/rgbcapturecards.html. I have not yet tried them with AG but they do work well with Windows Media Encoder. Hi Eric & Tom, Thanks for the near-simultaneous heads-ups :) I originally got that URL from you, Tom, in an email a few months ago; the only other reference I can see is on the VP project page on accessgrid.org which still points to a CVS repository on agcentral. Also, it might be good for that page to include the binaries from the ANU page (http://if.anu.edu.au/SW/VP.html) or at least link to it. Also, how hard it is for a separate service-type app like VP to access the shared data services from the Venue server that shared apps have? Hi Fred, No, the Blackmagic cards only support a couple resolutions per input (standard def for analog and 720p/1080i for HDMI/HDSDI), so what we do is take VGA out from a laptop, send it to a VGA-HDMI scaler (this one: http://www.atlona.com/Atlona-PC-Component-to-HDMI-Scaler-with-local-PC-Comp…) then the HDMI output from that into an Intensity Pro for use with the HD vic. That particular scaler has worked with every resolution we've thrown at it; the only downsides are that the VGA passthrough doesn't always work on our HDTVs with all resolutions (but theoretically we could just split the HDMI out, which does always work), and it doesn't automatically preserve aspect ratio (but you can manually switch it between 4:3 and 16:9). --Andrew 2009/5/5 Fred Dech <fdech(a)uchicago.edu> > after looking at the specs more closely, i note that the component is > YUV... Andrew, The address for the ci svn repository changed recently. The following address should work: https://svn.ci.uchicago.edu/svn/if-media Note: "www" was replaced with "svn". With existing checked out code, I've been able to update urls in ".svn/entries" and have them work fine -- I don't know if this is recommended by subversion, but has worked fine for me. We'll update the url on the documentation pages. Feel free to send url's to webpages or documentation you find that isn't updated. Hi Andrew: There haven't been any changes to the VP SVN at UChicago since I imported that code. It was placed there so that people could use and improve it. Here at RIT we're looking to develop a better interface for dealing with lots of videos, and it might be best for us to build on that instead of reinventing the wheel. We will discuss topics of general interest to the community, including the AG and collaboration in general, and AG3 in particular. This is an open forum for the community to air issues, new collaborations, and innovative ideas; please come prepared to participate. From the Lobby of the vv3 server (https://vv3.mcs.anl.gov:8000/Venues/default) enter the Institution Lobby, then Government Institutions, then Argonne National Laboratory. A second session will be held for those in the Asia-Pacific region, on THURSDAY, May 7 at 6:00PM CDT (23:00 UTC); note that this is a different day and a different time. Of course, anyone is welcome to attend this session, if it's more agreeable with their schedules. ANL will be running bridges in the Argonne venue for these meetings.

Joel: You can specify a command-line argument to enter a Venue on startup. VenueClient3.py --url=https://vv3.mcs.anl.gov:8000/Venues/default Vic only mutes streams when you're using the VideoProducerService. It sounds like you'll want to instead use the VideoConsumerService (which only receives video), or the VideoService (which both receives and sends).
