This error message is likely because they have signed packages only enabled.
I'm not sure if our current version is signed, I'll look into it.
They can turn this off with the following: 1. Open System Preferences: Security and Privacy: General 2. Unlock the lock to make changes 3. Select "Anywhere" from "Allow applications downloaded from" 4. Now install 5. Restart the computer 6. Open System Preferences: Security and Privacy: General 7. Unlock the lock to make changes 8. Change the setting back to "Mac App Store and Identified developers"
Thanks for the detailed instructions! The first step is to get them to download the latest dmg before we even go through any other troubleshooting steps. We don't *want* them to use an old one! We had wanted to get the dmg signed, but I'm not sure whether that ever happened. It would be good to know. Dear Dr. Hauser, We're not sure where you found kb-v2013-01-13.dmg -- can you tell me the URL of the page where you found it? It is an obsolete version. Please visit http://kbase.us/developer-zone/downloads/ for the latest dmg. If that one doesn't work for you, let us know and we'll help trouble-shoot. Nomi Harris Project Manager, KBase

I went to try to download this dmg and see what was wrong, but I can't figure out where Loren even found it! The version on http://kbase.us/developer-zone/downloads/ is 20130219-prod-dmg-4.dmg and even the older version down in the gray zone is kb-v2013-01-17.dmg
I can go ahead and reply and suggest that Loren download the latest version.
Aren't we glad that we put version numbers in the dmg filenames so that we didn't have to have a long, frustrating dialog with Loren about the problem before realizing that he or she was using an out-of-date dmg? :-)
