Chameleon now open to new users & Alamo cloud available

We are happy to share two Chameleon announcements with you today: new users can now sign up for a Chameleon account and our Alamo OpenStack is now available to all users! First, new users can now sign up for a Chameleon account. You can register at https://www.chameleoncloud.org/user/register/ Faculty and research staff from U.S.-based institutions can request PI eligibility when they register a Chameleon account. This allows to create new projects and invite other Chameleon users to them. If you migrated your FutureGrid account to Chameleon and would like to request PI eligibility, please file a help desk ticket via our web interface at https://www.chameleoncloud.org/help/ Second, the Alamo OpenStack cloud is now available. Get started by reading the user guide at https://www.chameleoncloud.org/docs/user-guides/alamo-user-guide/ Please note that the Hotel OpenStack cloud will be taken down for reconfiguration after December 15th. Any running instance will be terminated. It will reemerge as a FutureGrid@Chameleon resource before the end of the year. If you are currently using Hotel and would like to continue using cloud resources during the reconfiguration, we ask that you migrate to Alamo. If you need assistance in migrating images and volumes, please open a help desk ticket. If you don't need resources during the reconfiguration, you don't need to migrate since Hotel will be restored with your existing images and volumes. Welcome to Chameleon!

First release of the Chameleon user portal

We are happy to announce the first release of the Chameleon user portal! It is available at https://www.chameleoncloud.org. At this time, the portal will be available to FutureGrid users only; users will be able to convert their FutureGrid projects and accounts to Chameleon projects and accounts. The former FutureGrid Hotel resource will continue to be available in its current configuration until December 15th. During this transition period, users will be able to continue using Hotel with their FutureGrid account until they create their Chameleon account, so that you can migrate between the two projects at your leisure. During this two week period, the reconfigured Alamo resource will come online initiating our FutureGrid@Chameleon offering: FutureGrid machines, configured as they were in FutureGrid, operated for our Chameleon users. Alamo will be accessible via Chameleon accounts only so make sure to convert your FutureGrid account ASAP and plan to use Alamo when Hotel is down. After December 15th, Hotel will be taken down for reconfiguration and will reemerge as a FutureGrid@Chameleon resource before the end of the year. And we find that the week after Thanksgiving we still have something to be thankful for: thank you for your patience!
