Hello, A change in allocation has been requested: Requester: berger (Edmond Berger) Project: Collider_Processes Title: Simulations of High Energy Collider Physics Processes Description: Two investigations are under active consideration for FY 2009. Both are numerically intensive. The first is to provide the most precise estimate possible for the theoretical uncertainty in the determination of the mass of the W massive weak boson at the energy of the Large Hadron Collider. Within the Standard Model, this mass is an important ingredient for constraining the expected mass of the yet-to-be-discovered Higgs boson. The principal theoretical uncertainties arise from uncertainties in the parton distribution functions and from the limitations in the description within quantum chromodynamics of the distribution in transverse momentum of the W boson. We will do detailed numerical simulations to ascertain the uncertainty bounds. The second project will provide precise quantitative predictions for various kinematic distributions in reactions that produce an associated photon plus bottom quark final state. Once data are obtained, comparisons with our predictions should be instrumental for establishing the bottom quark parton distribution function. Current: undetermined amount Justification: Requested: 10000 A specific reason has been given: Our project has just restarted and a new collaborator is being added. This needs to be approved and the final allocation amount decided upon. Thank You, The LCRC Accounts System
