Allocation increase for ApsRenewalLattice

Dear LCRC Allocations Committee, Michael Borland's ApsRenewalLattice project ran out off time today, yet the plan has been to continue his 30-node reservation throughout FY2015. So LCRC needed to take action right away, and we hope you will agree with what we propose/did. We added 1M core-hours to his allocation at Michael's request so his work would not be interrupted. Of that, 564K core hours are needed to cover the 30-node reservation until Sept. 30. >From time to time Michael sees that Blues is largely empty and puts in extra jobs. From our perspective he has been careful and not interfered with other work. So the other 436K is for such contingencies. It may or may not be used, depending on what everyone else does between now and September 30th. The APS Upgrade project is coming up to their Critical Decision 1 (CD-1) review, so time short for them. If you have issues, please comment. This action can be revised. We try to help everyone be productive with the available resources. FYI Borland is asking for another million hours on Blues to run in his reservation. Hello, A yearly allocation for the LCRC cluster has been requested with the following updated information: Submitter/PI: Ray Bair Project Name: NuclearBurn Division: HEP Project title: Buoyancy-Driven Turbulent Nuclear Burning - TEST UPDATE Associated funding: Astrophysics and Cosmology Strategic Initiative LDRD Other Systems: Intrepid Science: Type Ia supernovae are powerful stellar explosions with the property that a large majority of explosions of this type are remarkably homogeneous; yet the mechanism by which they explode is not well understood. A proposed mechanism is the Gravitationally Confined Detonation (GCD) model, where ash created during a deflagration (subsonic nuclear combustion) is ejected from the star, flows around the surface, and collides with itself at the opposite point of breakout, sparking a detonation. In this joint Argonne - U. Chicago LDRD project we will quantify the scale-dependence of flame surface structure induced by buoyancy-generated turbulence. The current work focuses on determining the sensitivity of the properties of SN Ia explosions to the initial conditions. These simulations also provide input data to radiation transfer calculations of the light curves and spectra of SN Ia, enabling the Flash Center to validate the four current models of SNe Ia by comparing them with high-quality observations.
