Ken, the reason folks point to the beta compiler might be because the confluence site submission script examples have not been updated.
If you are seeing runtime issues with the GA compilers then you need to open a bug. I had sent in details on how to and I have also added this info on the confluence site.

So I notice we are pointing to the beta. I have been trying to send an email to the discuss list indicating that this compiler works fine for me but the newer one
(that Ben pointed to) hangs on multinode jobs.
Has anyone else observed this behavior?
Is this why we are still pointing people to this beta path?
Hoping I have better luck submitting this to the intel-nda list because it keeps bouncing back from the discuss list.
Thanks,
Ken

mpicc from Intel MPI uses GCC. mpiicc invokes icc. It will remind people of blue gene compiler names.

Hi Taylor,
source /soft/compilers/intel_beta/compilers_and_libraries/linux/bin/compilervars.sh intel64
mpicc gives you either GCC or something very very close. If the touchy code is Sherpa, this works, at least for a bare bones installation.
Cheers,
Tom

Hello,
I have a particularly touchy code that I haven't been able to compile yet with intel compilers and I'd like to use gcc for the KNL cluster.
Is there a gcc/mpich installation somewhere I can use?
Thanks,
Taylor
