[LCRC Accounts] Project Request: ML4Maxwell
Hello, A new project on the LCRC cluster has been requested. Please forward the information on to the LCRC Allocation sub-committee. Applicant's name: Alejandro Lopez Bezanilla Applicant's institution: ANL Applicant's division: MSD Project Name: ML4Maxwell Project title: Machine Learning to Solve a Maxwell's Equation Associated funding: DOE Other Systems: Science: A machine learning approach will be used to demonstrate that the first Maxwell's equation can be solved by means of statistical methods. A large amount of data describing the potential created by a charge distribution in multidimensional space with boundary conditions will be computed to obtain a training and validating set. An algorithm is expected to learn from the training data and compute new configurations. The accuracy will be compared with the validating data set. We performed a similar study on charge transport last year and successfully published on Phys. Rev. B 89, 235411 Project description: The numerical evaluation of the potential generated by punctual charges will be done by solving the Poisson's equation on a fine grid containing about 10^6 points. A sufficient large amount of training set will be generated with well-established methods such as the finite differences. A parallelized in-home C/C++ code with linear scaling over multiple nodes will be used. Also we are evaluating to perform calculations with the code MADNESS, specially for the challenging case of a 3D configuration involving 10^9 point and large amount of memory allocations. Industry partnership: Project URL: Requested allocation: 450000 Q1: 125000 Q2: 100000 Q3: 125000 Q4: 100000 Justification: Storage requirements: The requester has used undetermined amount hours of their initial startup project. In addition to approving an initial amount, please specify a Category and Subcategory for this project. For a list of the current selection of approved categories, please see: https://wiki.lcrc.anl.gov/wiki/Processes/Categories Once the Allocation committee has approved the project, please go to the Project Management page to create it: https://accounts.lcrc.anl.gov/projects.php Thank You, The LCRC Accounts System
