[LCRC Accounts] Yearly Allocation Request for LES-sprays
Hello, A yearly allocation for the LCRC cluster has been requested with the following updated information: Submitter/PI: Sibendu Som Project Name: LES-sprays Division: ES Project title: Large Eddy Simulations of Fuel Sprays and Analysis of Multiple Realizations Associated funding: DOE - Office of Vehicle Technologies Other Systems: Convergent Science Inc., Cummins Engine Company Science: This project will use an Eulerian-Lagrangian computation fluid dynamics (CFD) software called CONVERGE to model various diesel engine spray processes, and implement/validate an Euerian-Lagrangian Spray Atomization (ELSA) model in CONVERGE. The goal is to capture dense spray at near-field region and also further downstream. Project description: The project is in two parts: In the first part, the work will continue to focus on high-fidelity, multi-realization LES calculations of diesel sprays from the Engine Combustion Network (ECN) and APS at Argonne. The objective is to examine the resolved energy by the LES and required grid resolution for engine spray simulations and optimization, and study the number of realizations required for comparison with experimental data. In the second part, the validation of the implemented ELSA model will be performed. The model parameters and grid resolutions will be investigated with experimental data on single-hole and multi-hole injection conditions. Multiple realization LES will be performed to study the cycle-to-cycle variations.
