Early (~1985, see below) lattice field theories used FFT for accelerating simulations. My understanding is that it does not parallel well, so nobody uses it anymore. D 32, 2736 – Published 15 November 1985 ABSTRACT We present a new analysis of Langevin simulation techniques for lattice field theories, including a general discussion of errors and algorithm speed. We introduce Fourier techniques that greatly accelerate simulations on large lattices. We also introduce a new technique for including quark vacuum-polarization corrections that admits any number of flavors, odd or even, without the need for nested Monte Carlo calculations.
