Saint Xavier University - Student Research Collaborations
Good evening! Any mentors still interested in taking a fully-funded undergraduate students? I have two students from Saint Xavier (resumes attached). They are funded on an 8-week NSF fellowship for the summer (full time hours), and would be brought to the lab as “regular” Visiting Students. They are both software engineering/computer science majors. They would starting on June 1 through July 23. If interested, you could certainly speak with the student(s) first. To make an offer to the student, I will need the CELS Student Request Form<https://wordpress.cels.anl.gov/forms/cels-forms/cels-student-request-form/> and the Student Selection Form (attached), asap. The University was given a grant by the National Science Foundation to promote and retain minority STEM students and help them build a foundation for them to continue into graduate school. One of the activities provided by the grant are research opportunities where we pay the student to participate and gain hands-on experience in their field. Saint Xavier University's research facilities are limited as to what research projects can be done here which is why we are hoping to provide some type of research experience at Argonne. If there are any projects (for any science category such as Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Engineering, Natural Sciences etc.) where a lead researcher needs students to help facilitate a research project, we'd love to have some of our students be the ones to help. We are looking to get 2-4 students to be involved in the research projects. If I need to contact the scientists directly, please let me know. The students would not need to be paid by Argonne as we would pay the students, but they would gain an experience that can only be achieved at the largest national laboratory in the Midwest region. Thank you for your time.
