Hello: The Argonne ACTSO High School Research Program was developed to increase the African-American STEM pipeline by exposing highly motivated African-American students to the joys and benefits of scientific research. The ACTSO program has grown tremendously this year and now has 40 students. Currently, there are only 16 mentors. We need your help in terms of serving as mentors. This is an great opportunity to share your knowledge with high-school students. Below is the information about the time commitment and attached is additional information. Postdocs as well as staff are encouraged to participate as mentors. Please let Maria Curry-Nkansah know of your interest in the program. The mentors work with the students from 10 am to 1 pm on the dates below helping students with: * Ideation * literature research and discussion * experimental design * safety review * data collection * 5 page paper/poster preparation/presentation preparation October 6–Mentor/Mentee Roundtable November 3–Project Development December 1–Project Completion (computational, experimental, etc.) January 5–Project Completion and Analysis February 2–Project Analysis and Preparation of Written Report March 2–Preparation of Poster and Presentation The program supplies all equipment/materials and lab space where needed.
