On Apr 19, 2019, at 11:28 AM, Foster, Ian T. <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> wrote: Dear all: I think that you are all familiar with the upcoming AI,ML,DA CoDesign FOA, and the internal process for concept proposals, for which Valerie and Silvia sent out emails as below. Key points: * The lab is limited to leading two proposals. (Participation in proposals led by other labs is not constrained.) * Concept papers are due by Wednesday April 24 * The FOA has a strong focus on "co-design R&D activities where specific classes of AI systems and/or foundational AI system architecture and software are proposed,” and in doing so "in support of DOE mission." I have been asked to help enable coordination among people interested in contributing. To that end, I propose that people interested in the topic meet on Monday at 2pm (I will find a room). I can communicate what I know about the call (unfortunately, not much more than what is in the FOA) and people who want to say a few words about their interests can do so. I not that this is the first of what we expect to be a number of calls over the coming year. So time spent making connections and developing ideas will not be wasted. Regards — Ian ——— Hello Everyone: The AI,ML,DA CoDesign FOA is now available, LAB 19-2119<https://science.energy.gov/~/media/grants/pdf/lab-announcements/2019/LAB_19-2119.pdf>. This is a lab-only announcement, with labs limited to lead up to 2 proposals. If you are interested in partnering on a proposal in response to this FOA, please contact Ian or Rajeev. If you are interested in leading a proposal in response to this FOA, there will be down select process coordinated out of the CELS office with input from MCS, DSL, CPS, ALCF. As noted in the email from Silvia, if you are interested in leading a proposal, the 1-2 page concept proposal is due to Silvia by April 24, with notifications given by April 26. Thanks, Valerie ——— On April 16, DOE ASCR released the FOA, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and Data Analytics CoDesign, LAB 19-2119<https://science.energy.gov/~/media/grants/pdf/lab-announcements/2019/LAB_19-2119.pdf>. This FOA is focused on the co-design of learning systems and AI environments in support of DOE missions such as scientific research in the disciplines DOE funds, national security, oil & gas, grid, cyber, emergency response/preparedness, and cross-disciplinary insight that overlaps the DOE mission area. This is a lab-only announcement, for which labs are limited to leading no more than 2 proposals. Selection Process: If interested in leading a proposal in response to this FOA, please submit a 1-2 page concept proposal to Silvia Mulligan ([email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>) by Wednesday, April 24. Notification of the selection process will be made by Friday, April 26. The Letter of Intent is due by May 1, 5:00pm Eastern Time.
