Dear all,

I am sharing this excellent opportunity to apply to participate in the well regarded NSF I-Corps program. The program is operated by the Polsky Center of the University of Chicago. The particular opportunity is open to applicants from Argonne and is targeted at researchers working in the area of data science.

NSF I-Corps program empowers scientists, researchers, and students to test the commercial potential of their research and ideas. Participants are not required to have previous experience in business or entrepreneurship in order to be accepted into the I-Corps program. If selected, participation in the program is free to the applicants, and the applicant (or team) will receive a grant of $500 to support their customer discovery efforts.

Application deadline is August 21, 2020.

Please note that one of the requirements listed is to name a UChicago affiliated individual as a team member. That requirement is automatically met for any Argonne team, as Argonne is UChicago affiliated.

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions,

Introducing: Accelerated I-Corps Program for Data Science

The Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation is pleased to introduce a new, accelerated version of the I-Corps program, designed for data scientists.

The Accelerated I-Corps Program will span four weeks and provide teams with a $500 grant to support their customer discovery efforts. The program uses experiential education to help data scientists/researchers gain valuable insight into entrepreneurship, starting a business, and/or industry requirements and challenges. Participating data scientists and researchers have the opportunity to be matched with a student intern for the I-Corps program. Student interns can support customer discovery efforts. The program will focus on:

  • Data science applications
  • Helping teams explore market opportunities for their research
  • Increase access to potential funding, including up to $1.75 million in equity-free funding from the National Science Foundation (NSF)

The Polsky Center I-Corps program empowers UChicago scientists, researchers, and students to learn about innovation and entrepreneurship and how to test the potential of their ideas. Funded by the NSF, the program is designed for teams working on projects related to the STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) fields.

Applications for the Accelerated Data Science I-Corps cohort are due by Friday, August 21 at 5:00 p.m. CST, and will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

Previous experience in business or entrepreneurship is not required. For more information, visit icorps.uchicago.edu
