                        Climate Conference on April 14
 

As climate change transforms ecosystems across the globe, escalating effects are evident across the country and projected to become even more pronounced in the coming decades. A national strategy is urgently needed that combines the long-term goal of a 100% clean energy future with immediate, science-driven actions to help all communities minimize the impacts of climate change.

As part of our Lab’s commitment to building a sustainable future for all, Argonne is convening “America Resilient: Projecting and Preparing for the Effects of Climate Change,” on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We invite you to join the conversation and to share this invitation with colleagues and key stakeholders that would benefit from learning how institutions from across the country are putting science-based resilience solutions to work today.

U.S. Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm will serve as the keynote speaker and discuss her vision of how our national labs will play an integral role in creating healthy, safe, and thriving communities. We plan on inviting the Lab community and sharing additional details on how to log in and listen to remarks from Secretary Granholm.

Hear from other influential leaders including U.S. Representative Sean Casten; Shalanda H. Baker, deputy director for energy justice at the Department of Energy; and Dr. Georges Benjamin, executive director for the American Public Health Association. Join experts from the University of Chicago’s Mansueto Institute for Urban Innovation, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, AT&T, and more as we come together to build resilience and transformative change.

The America Resilient conference will focus on three areas key to climate resiliency:  

• High-accuracy, high-resolution climate models that can project potential climate impacts at the regional and local level;
• Data and tools to empower governments and industries to take proactive and effective steps to build resilience; and
• Initiatives that can help our most vulnerable communities adapt to be resilient against climate change impacts and thrive in the transition to a clean-energy society.
