PSE AI in Science and Engineering Townhall Meetings

Dear Colleagues,

The Physical Sciences and Engineering Directorate will host a series of Townhall Meetings on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Science and Engineering. The purposes of the meetings are to build a community and a network of collaborators across divisions and directorate, to help catalyze collaborative projects involving development and use of AI in sciences and engineering. This will enable Argonne to capture major anticipated external funding in the scientific areas over the next five years. The ideas and discussions will also help articulate a science-driven strategy for AI applications, and areas where Argonne should claim national and international leadership.

The format of the meetings will be one-hour meetings with 15-minute presentations by volunteers, up to three presentations per meeting, followed by Q&A and discussions. We are looking for informal presentations on ideas that staff or postdocs would like to pursue, or that you think Argonne should pursue, why this is a cool or important idea, and also state what skills or capabilities are needed to realize the project(s); in particular, we hope the townhall meetings can connect collaborators across the divisions and directorates. The meetings are primarily for PSE staff and postdocs, as well as staff and postdocs in MCS, DSL, and CPS, but anybody who would like to attend to listen or to present ideas are welcome.

The meetings are to be held weekly Thursdays at 2 pm at venues below. We are looking for volunteers: please respond by signing up at the doodle poll:

indicating your preferred date for a presentation, and a tentative title in the comments section. You are welcome to give as many presentations as you would like, but any one person can only give one presentation per meeting.

If you have any specific questions, please contact Olle Heinonen, heinonen@anl.gov.
