Re: [JLSE-Admins] Fwd: [JLSE-Discuss] Inexpensive Xeon Phis, Interest?
Would it be possible to use one or two of the Haswell machines? Pete and others are asking me for a quick series of experiments on Haswell. I'd like to have one in the room temperature environment. I don't need the Phi cards for this experiment. - kaz On 11/18/2014 03:40 PM, Allen, Benjamin S. wrote:
Kumar and Raj,
Shall I go ahead with getting say 18 or so of the cheap Xeon Phi's purchased? For 16 it would cost $2250, which is basically free... I'd put 2 in each of the IIT SCC machines once we get them back. We'd have two Phi's left over for spares.

All,
Intel has a fire sale of Xeon Phi 31S1P of $125 ea. These are roughly equivalent to the 5110P. They're a bit slower than the 7120A's we have now and only have 8GB compared to 16GB.
JLSE has 8 servers being added after SC'14 that could each support two of these. Is there interest in expanding the number of JLSE Xeon Phi testbeds?
