[JLSE-Admins] OS devel machine
(Primarily to) Ben and Ken, # I'm on vacation tomorrow, I couldn't join the meeting. I'd like to bring an important topic. I have two Sandy Bridge machines at tinkerlab for the OS devel and apps co-design. I have full access, of course. These two have been helping lots of projects. But these day more people get interested in using these resources, even application folks. I'd like to have additional hackable resources. The BB clusters scheme works but I'm not sure I can do my work with the JLSE main resources. What I want to: - reboot with custom kernel. I can do this with PXE. - cycle power, console forward. change BIOS setting. IPMI is needed. CUI is preferred. - a dedicated disk partition is preferred (at least 10GB). - remote power cycle interface may be nice to have (in case IPMI failed) - I don't need to mount the home dirs during kernel work but some persistent disk partition would be nice. - regular users can also access the hackable machines when not in for the OS devel and app co-design. I think it is time share-able. NOTE: I can do IPMI and PXE configuration. I don't want to touch any system-wide resource such as NFS home dir, LDAP, etc. I don't want to maintain the image for regular users. I think this can not be fixed over night.maybe we can re-purpose BB cluster space for developer driven resources. Is this doable? - kaz
